Parent’s welfare bodies held took a progressive initiative of holding a book fair for exchanging of old used textbooks for their children. The book fair was held in Ghaziabad and Gautam Budh Nagar, Noida, and was a success in donating and exchanging school textbooks for classes 6 and above.
Current times had been struggling due to the pandemic-induced financial crisis, and this step was a major relief for parents.

In Noida, GB Nagar Parents Welfare Society (GPWS) organized the district’s first-of-its-kind books exchange fair in association with the Federation of Noida Residents Welfare Association (FONRWA) on Sunday. While the event witnessed a limited audience on Day 1, the welfare society plans to organize a second round next Sunday. It was held on FONRWA office premises in Sector 52.

Meanwhile, Ghaziabad Parents Association (GPA), organized a two-day fair from Sunday, across four areas, including Shastri Nagar, Indirapuram, Vijay Nagar, and Vaishali. They stated that nearly 4000 books were exchanged between dozens of parents and children. Apart from books, the Ghaziabad fair also saw parents exchange stationery and uniforms.

“Often in WhatsApp groups of schools, parents are seen enquiring about books from the parents of their child’s senior. At times it becomes difficult for them to find one. To address this issue, we organized the book fair,” Manoj Kataria, GPWS founder expressed to TOI.

Kataria believes such initiatives can be extremely beneficial and run a long way. It will lessen the burden on parents to purchase books amid the inflation and reduce tree felling for paper.
